NECU Deactivates VISA Platinum Cards "At Risk" for Fraud as of March 11th.
Due to the escalated fraud activity resulting from the Heartland security breach, NECU has deactivated Visa Platinum cards that might be at high risk for fraud. This action took effect on March 11, 2009. After this date, affected cardholders will no longer be able to use their old card. Affected cardholders have been notified about their VISA Platinum card reissue and should expect to receive their new card(s) shortly.
Cards were compromised when a merchant’s customer information was breached by an outside source. While this breach did not occur at Northeast Credit Union, we believe the security and privacy of our member's financial information is paramount and necessitated this action. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Northeast Credit Union would like to remind members that they are protected with Visa’s Zero Liability policy*, which means Visa cardholders pay nothing for unauthorized purchases on their account. Please be assured that we are continuously monitoring accounts for possible fraudulent activity.
*Visa's Zero Liability policy covers U.S.- issued cards only and does not apply to commerical credit cards, ATM transactions or PIN transactions not processed by Visa. Cardholders must notify card issuers.
