Phone Scam regarding Canadian Law Enforcement

Several local residents were targeted in a phone scam recently originating from Canada.
Detective Mike Munck, of the Exeter Police Department, said two residents, both in their 80s, received a phone call on Aug. 29 from a person purporting to be their grandson. He told them he had been arrested for fishing without a license, was in a Canadian jail and needed $2,900 for bail. The couple was put on the phone with someone claiming to be from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who confirmed what the "grandson" was saying.
